A Study in Respectful Remodel
1909 House
Garden Design Studio collaborated with Arciform
LLC — an award-winning vintage home remodeler using earth-friendly
and sustainable techniques and materials — to design and install
the garden landscape for the 1909
House, 2005's PGE Earth Advantage project.
Amy and Kathryn presented the landscape at the open house during construction
February 26, 2005. They described the benefits of creating an organic
garden, keeping rain water on-site, reducing lawn and creating a beautiful
landscape that incorporates easy-care plants for year-round interest.
The project, the remodel of a Hollywood District/Alameda Ridge home
originally built in 1909, was completed on March 1, 2005 and was part
of the Tour of Remodeled Homes on March 12 and
13, accompanied by a self-guided tour of the garden illustrating the
sustainable aspects of the design.
