About Kathryn and Amy

Amy Whitworth

Kathryn Leech and Amy Whitworth are two like-minded Portland garden designers who strive to create spaces that are in harmony with the earth—friendly gardens that nurture families and pets.

We first met at Portland Community College where we shared Landscape Technology classes. We began our careers working together for five years at a retail nursery in Washington where we created numerous display gardens, taught classes and developed a design program for our customers.

Since 1999 we have participated in the Home and Garden Shows as well as other events where we offer FREE design sketches to our visitors, providing a glimpse into the mind of a professional landscape designer.

Some of our awards

Lewisia & Clarkia: a Garden of Discovery, the garden we created for the 2004 Portland Home and Garden Show, received a Gold Medal. It also won the Best Educational Award and Best Habitat Award.

Our garden In the Company of Rain, created for the 2003 Portland Home and Garden Show, received a Bronze Medal. It also won the American Horticultural Society Award for Environmental Stewardship, and the Best Educational Award.

The Garden Design Studio is a pround member of the Architectural Heritage Center, and celebrates diversity as advertisers in the Gay & Lesbian Yellow Pages.

Kathryn and Amy are both members of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and of the Association of Northwest Landscape Designers.
